summer job search

Cally Martin / January 25, 2018

Summer Isn’t Just for Beaches and Margaritas…

Summer can be the perfect time to search for your next career!

If you are one of the many millennials who have self-diagnosed FOMO and dread the thought of a typical 9-5 job because it doesn’t quite fit in with your plan, seasonal summer work just might be for you. Similar to the holiday season, many companies will boost their hiring of seasonal workers during the summer months.

More and more young people are finding part-time gigs or summer internships that won’t interfere with all the activities and plans they have for the summer.

The end of the school year is fast-approaching and many college (and high school) students are looking forward to a relaxing, non-working summer at home on your parent’s dime. But if you’re living at home, I imagine your parents have different plans for you. You need to get a job!

Summer is the perfect time for job hopping. Millennials often have a reputation wanting to try everything. Summer gigs and internships are the perfect opportunity to do that. You can improve your skills in an area you might not have considered otherwise. Having knowledge in a variety of industries and jobs can make you more employable down the road.

Additionally, as a student, changing jobs frequently is less likely to be frowned upon if the employment dates are during your summer vacation. Similarly, internships are typically required for most majors now. Finding an internship before it is required to can give you a step up in the process, grow your connections, and expand your knowledge.

Whether you’re graduating high school, college, or just want to take the summer off; you don’t have to hit pause on your education. Take a job where you can grow as an individual, develop a new skillset, or do something you’ve always been passionate about. Initiative! You never know where it might take you.

If you’re ready to start your summer job search, check out Jobs2Careers. It’s a quick and easy way to find gigs anywhere in the U.S. so you can get back to more important things, like that boat party!
